Review - RC Amoeba Magic Wheel for Tamiya CC-01 and CR-01 and HPI Wheely King

Monster trucks are one of the most popular segments of the RC industry. All monster trucks fans enjoys customizing their trucks in many different ways. Some of them adds lights, oversized shocks or high performance motors or engines. One of the first upgrades are the tires. RC Amoeba offers high quality alloy wheels with a very unique feature that lets you adjust the offset in many different ways. Two types of wheels are offered to better suite your needs, for example the narrow wheels (PN: MW101) offer a Tamiya CR-01 an expansion of offsets to +8mm and extra 5mm (each side) with each additional washer. And the wide version (PN: MW301) offers a Tamiya Super Clod Buster adjustable offset positions from +8mm to +27mm per side, and extra 12mm with additional washer. For the diehard monster trucks fans, an adaptor is available for a multi-wheels wide setup with no limited number of wheels. RC Amoeba sent me a full set of their widest wheels for a test on my Wheely King. All the wheels fits 12mm hexes including the popular trucks like Tamiya CC-01 and CR-01.

Installation:

Before installing the wheels, you must decide what offset you’ll use. The inner part of the wheel can be installed in various positions to obtain different width setting . I configured my wheels to have the maximum offset and the wide of my Wheely King has expanded to 400mm, after all, this is a monster truck! The inner part of the wheel is held in place by twelve stainless steel screws for maximum durability. All the parts are extremely well machined and they fit well together. Once my four wheels were done, I installed my new huge V treaded tires. I had to slightly modify the hexs so they can perfectly fit the wheels.

The wheels have added extra weight but they added a lot of stability to my Wheely King. It is now almost impossible for my truck to roll over on tight cornering at high speed. This is a HUGE improvement. The extra weight doesn’t affect how my truck performs. In fact, the weight prevents the front wheels from lifting to easily under hard accelerations and this increases accelerations at the same time.

Conclusion:

For me, the RC Amoeba Magic Wheels are the best upgrade to increase the stability of any monster trucks or crawlers. They are extremely well machined, easy to install and they provide adjustable offset. You can find the RC Amoeba Magic Wheels at RCMart.com exclusively. With a street price under the 100$us for 4pcs, they are very affordable and they worth the try. You’ll not regret your buy. Go and make your monster truck wider and more stable!
