My Track

Here's my track project. I have a large backyard so I decided to build my own track to practice and race with few other racers. I race my Monster GT, my ST-1, my RC10GT2 and maybe my RC18T on this 80' x 50' track with 12' wide lanes.

A-> small triple jump
B-> double jump
C-> single small jump
D-> short double jump
E-> rhythm section

Hints to build your own race track

  1. Be sure your neighbours know what you are doing and they will accept the noise and dust. Building a nitro track where many people reside is not a good idea. Respect your neighbours

  2. Contact your city to know if a track is accepted in your area

  3. Identify where you want your track

  4. Draw a layout, keep in mind that you should have at least 8ft wide lanes. Don't go extreme with your layout. Keep it realisable. To help you, you can use the TrackMaker program designed for Windows. Go to the author web site or download it. Here's my track layout realized with TrackMaker. In this example, each square equals a 12ft x 12ft surface

  5. Once the drawing is completed, try to visualize how the track will look like. For my track I pictured the terrain and then I just drew few lines with MS Paint over the picture. With MS Paint, draw few lines to give you an idea of the final project
  6. Now that you have an excellent idea of how your track will look like, it's time for the big machinery. Contact as many people as you can to have the best price. It cost me 70$CND/hour to rent the machinery, operator included... And it took him only 3 hours to complete exactly want I wanted. I used the removed grass to setup the jumps and I covered them with extra sand. Don't waste your time with a shovel, let the big guys do their jobs ! Your back will reward you.
  7. Here's what it will look like once the grass is removed. Now, it's time to install your inner and outer barriers.
  8. For the outer barriers, I used 3/4"x5"x8' pieces of wood. For the inner barriers, I used 2"x3"x8". This is not ROAR legal but it's the cheapest way I found to have barriers. I'll add pics soon.

  9. When you installed all the barriers, take the time to remove all rocks or any other debris. Also take the time to flat all the surface.

  10. I don't have any specialised equipment to pack the track. Some people use
