RC Pro Products would like to announce the new Alpha Plus RTR Series. That’s right the same company that has taken the race industry by storm this year has now release 2 RTR engines available in .21 & .28 for those who are looking for a top quality engine for your RTR Buggy or Truggy!
Like all products RC Pro Products sells we have had one of our drivers test this engine. This started with a tear down to see if we could find out how they can sell this engine so cheap. Looking at the inside of the engine the machine work matches that of the race engine so no scrimping on quality there! This engine uses the same bearings and crankcase as all the .21 engines. The carb is the same as the F850 race engine. The crank is identical to all the .21 race engines with the exception of the nipple on the crank pin for the pull start. This engine is a 3 port engine which should deliver plenty of usable power for the basher or beginner. The head is different from what has been seen on an Alpha to this point. I actually like this head better but that’s just me. It is a straight fin with a total of 9 fins. Here is where Alpha saved some money on manufacturing……. the head and crank case are standard aluminum color meaning no anodizing or laser etching.
The pull start is a neat setup because unless you are pulling it to start the engine it is not connected to the crank pin. When you pull the handle the T plate moves in and catches the nipple on the crank pin to spin the engine. Once the engine starts or you release the handle the T plate pulls back to the end plate out of the way. So less weight for the engine to move thus the engine revs better.

Now for the testing. These engines do come with a standard glow plug head button although the turbo plug button from any of the .21 race engines will interchange. The next thing we notice is this engine does not have the normal heavy pinch as the race engines. There is metal to metal pinch on the piston and sleeve but it’s not too much for the pull start this also speeds up the breakin. The engine cranked quick and sounded really good after several tanks of heat cycling it went off to the track in a Mugen MBX6T for a club race. The engine had plenty of power for the truck and was quite surprising to everyone on hand. Actually our driver placed 3rd in the A main with it that day even though the main focus was on testing and not actually trying to win a race. Our test engine worked really well with the A Plus 0801 pipe the same as all the other Alpha Plus engines. So far we have 1 1/2 gallons through it and will be ran until it gives out since our test driver was so impressed he will be running it for more of the club races.
All in all this engine should make a very good basher or newbie engine without breaking the bank. I also think it will make a great race engine for some of the smaller tight tracks out there. It can be converted to a non pull start by cutting off the nipple and replacing the pull start with a standard Alpha rear plate, we did that already so we know it works.
These engines will be available in January from our shop site or dealers at a very reasonable $125.
