I own, ooops, I mean, my six years old son owns a HPI Wheely King since a little more than one year. I have bought him this truck because I wanted an affordable electric 4×4 truck so he can get in touch and familiarize with the hobby without breaking the bank and keeping things simple. To be honest with you, I bought the truck and wished my son will like his gift so I could share my passion with him.
To make a long story short, my son have bashed his Wheely King all around the house and he experimented the gravity’s law several times by jumping our patio’s stairs and by climbing any hills small or big. Like any kids, he also liked to nail the throttle until the truck crashes or ends on its lid. He never broke a single part on his truck, so I figure, I have picked the right truck to get a six years old kid into the hobby.
Recently, I showed him that his truck can be also fun when runs slowly. Since, he tries to climb any obstacles he can find. He then stops the truck and takes time to watch and comment how the suspension works and absorbs the rocks and terrain imperfections.
Another cool thing is that my son likes his WK and he takes care of it. That’s funny to watch him carrying his truck outside and installing the battery pack and turning the switches on. RC is now part of our discussions. We have few projects together for the summer. He visits HPI’s website once and a while searching for pictures and hop ups for his truck.
RC gives us the chance to spend even more time together. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on a race buggy for having fun. I have spent 200$ when I’ve bought my son a Wheely King and since then, we have shared good moments.
