Article – What was the first Ready-To-Run vehicle?

Have you ever thought what RC will be without the ready-to-run vehicles? Back in the 80’s and in the early 90’s, almost every vehicle was sold as kit and buyers had to buy all electronics separately. Today, the majority of vehicles sold are RTR. So who has been the first manufacturer to introduce the ready-to-run concept?

The answer is the Traxxas Cat in 1987. Twenty three years ago! That’s cool isn’t it?

I had difficulties finding information on the web concerning the Traxxas Cat. Finding nice pictures was a challenge. From what I had found on the web, the Cat was based on the F10 chassis from NIKKO R/C which was a two-wheel-drive dune buggy. The Cat was offered with a blue or red body. Depending of the information, I’ve found.  Jet Booster was the name of the blue body. Both car were identical and were equipped with an AM 27Mhz radio stick, a 540-size motor, two servo and a mechanical speed controller.
