Hot Bodies team driver, Atsushi Hara is one of the most complete RC racers. In 2000, Atsushi won the IFMAR World Championship 1:10 Electric Touring Cars. In 2008, he won the IFMAR World Championship 1:8 IC Off Road and more recently, he won FEMCA Buggy Championship 1:8 Off Road. He is an excellent driver dominating the carpet as well as the dirt tracks all around the world. We asked him few questions just before the World Championship!
MyRCBox.com: Few weeks ago, you went to Pattaya in Thailand for practicing for the next 1:8 off-road World Championship. How have been the practices?
Atsushi Hara: It is really good practice for HB team. We have some new bodies and parts testing and works very good!!!
MyRCBox.com: From what we had seen on the web, the track seemed rough and extremely technical, how was the track?
Atsushi Hara: This track was so difficult to drive. 10min with no miss takes is almost impossible!! The racer who will win this race is the one who drives most consistent for sure!!
MyRCBox.com: Are there any sections of the track that require more of your attention for driving or for tuning your buggy?
Atsushi Hara: Not really but we will have to make the car stronger. We should need some parts such as thick shock tower, more aluminum parts for suspension. Everything is for make the car stronger. And I just need to drive it with no mistakes!!!
MyRCBox.com: The track surface and the tires wear have seemed to be two major concerns during the practices. What will be your approach for the race?
Atsushi Hara: Tire choice would be depending how much they put oil on the track. If they put so much oil on it, I would choice softer compound. If not so much oil and dry condition i will choice medium or harder compound.
MyRCBox.com: At this moment, do you have a good idea of what will work and what will not for that track?
Atsushi Hara: Good idea, I will try no fuel stop for10min in qualify. New OS engine was goof for more than 11min run in practice few weeks ago. Not good idea would be driving too hard and eventually make huge crash, so don’t drive too hard.
MyRCBox.com: Can we say that the major part of your preparation is done?
Atsushi Hara: YES!!
MyRCBox.com: What are your expectations for the next IFMAR World Championship 1/8 Off-Road?
Atsushi Hara: No one has defended the title in this class so far, so i will try to be the first one for this!
MyRCBox.com: All the world best racers will be present, of all those racers, which ones do you see as your biggest rivals for the win?
Atsushi Hara: I think TEBO because he is the most consistent fast driver.
MyRCBox.com: You race on-road and off-road and you are very talented on both surfaces, which one do you prefer?
Atsushi Hara: I think 1/8 buggy is more fun to drive, because overall driving skill is more important for this class. On road is more about set up.
MyRCBox.com: Do you prepare differently for an on-road race than you prepare for an off-road race?
Atsushi Hara: Both are the same I think especially for World championships. But I think off-road is more important for “Making sure everything”
MyRCBox.com: HPI/Hot Bodies have recently released a new ³Hara Edition² D8 buggy. What has been updated on the buggy?
Atsushi Hara: It is full of option parts on the car and about 200g lighter weight compare to standard D8. Car has more grip, more steering and easier to drive!!!
MyRCBox.com: Is this basically the buggy you¹ll race for the next World?
Atsushi Hara: Yes.
MyRCBox.com: Sponsors are a major part of your hobby/sport so who are your sponsors?
Atsushi Hara: HB, HPI, OS speed, Futaba, Muchmore, Hara Racing Products, Ride, Xenon, Abec35, Team AJ, Proline, Reedy, BSG, My super mechanic Masayuki Miura
Thanks for the interview and all my best wishes for the next 1:8 Off Road IFMAR World Championship.
